Our Story

Our family’s journey in hospitality began right here in Pass-a-Grille, where Sabal Palms Inn—originally built in 1926—has stood as one of the first lodging properties on the barrier beaches. It’s been in our family for over five decades and has been lovingly restored and cared for throughout the years, preserving its original charm while creating a warm, welcoming space for guests who return year after year.

In 2013, Joseph Caruso acquired the historic building just two short blocks south—now Havana Inn. Originally built in 1912 as The Quebec, this charming property was also fully restored, reflecting his passion for breathing new life into historic spaces while honoring their character.

Pass-a-Grille isn’t just a beach town—it’s a state of mind. Nestled at the southern tip of St. Pete Beach, it’s known for its old-Florida feel, stunning sunsets, and unhurried pace. It’s a place where time slows down and memories are made.

Just across the bridge in Tierra Verde, we also operate Wander Residence, a trio of thoughtfully designed one- and two-bedroom suites located just outside the entrance to Fort De Soto Beach. Tierra Verde holds a special place in our hearts—it’s where we live and grew up.

Today, all three properties—Sabal Palms Inn, Havana Inn, and Wander Residence—are owned and operated by the Caruso family: Joe, Sofia, and Joseph Jr. Together, we share a deep love for this coast, for the stories behind these walls, and for welcoming guests into our little slice of paradise.
